Glacial

by Tim Fain

/

about

I composed Glacial, for violin and orchestra, as a wedding gift for my friends Rachel and Mikkel, who were getting married in Antarctica. I'd been spellbound by reports that one of the largest ice sheets, the Thwaites Glacier, was melting at unprecedented rates, which could result in the sea level rising by 2 feet.

There's a quiet urgency in Glacial, which speaks not only to the challenges of marriage, two people coming together with one heart, but also in the choices we make every day which will impact the future of life on our planet. As the world's attention is focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, let's not forget that we are in the midst of another crisis, that of global warming and preserving life as we know it on the planet. Let's celebrate Earth Day 2020 together through music and healing.
